Implemented by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and partners, this project aimed at diversifying local economies in Mpumalanga, a region heavily reliant on coal mining and related industries. The project focused on mapping out viable mitigation and adaptation pathways to support the province’s shift towards a more diversified and sustainable economic base. It involved extensive stakeholder engagement and capacity-building initiatives to foster local expertise in green industries and alternative economic activities. The project was completed in March 2023, laying the groundwork for ongoing economic transformation efforts in the region.
