The Role of Social Policies in the Framework for Just Transition (France)

This project explored the intersection between social policies and the broader framework for a just transition in Mpumalanga, a region heavily impacted by coal mining. Implemented by Peta Wolpe and Wendy Annecke, and funded by France, the initiative contributed to the debate on how social policies can support the equitable distribution of opportunities and challenges as the region transitions away from coal. The project focused on ensuring that vulnerable populations benefit from the transition by promoting social equity and inclusivity. The project concluded in December 2022, offering valuable insights into the role of social policies in supporting a fair and inclusive energy transition.
